Just like Maslow’s Triangle of Needs, the chakras don’t follow a strictly hierarchical path. Several chakras might need concurrent ‘balancing’, but they need not follow a linear patter. We need a series of accomplishments to build other accomplishments from. Sometimes an assessment might disappoint us or make us feel overwhelmed, incapable, that it’s a lost cause. Just like you can’t directionally get where you want to go without knowing where that is, you need a good set of goals to create change. Psychology: Freud’s Anal Stage (2 to 3 years old): Controlling bodily functions. Failure to do so creates a feeling of shame. Here, we’re moving from the sacral chakra’s pleasure seeking focus to being in control of ourselves. Developing an awareness of the body and differences between male and female bodies, as well as identifying with the same-sex parent, Erikson’s Stage 4 (Industry vs Inferiority): Developing a sense of self confidence in abilities when competent and inferiority when not, Maslow’s Self Esteem Needs: confidence, achievement, respect of others, the need to be a unique individual.
